General
How long does fence staining last in West Texas?
With a commercial-grade, deep-penetrating oil-based stain, most cedar fences in the Permian Basin last 2–3 years before needing a recoat. The intense UV exposure and dry heat here accelerate fading faster than in other climates, which is why we use stains with heavy UV inhibitors rather than big-box store products.
Do I need to do anything to prepare before your crew arrives?
For most jobs, no. We handle all surface prep (cleaning, scraping, patching, and priming) as part of our process. If you have furniture or plants near the work area, moving them back a few feet is helpful but not required.
Do you do fencing for businesses and ranches?
Yes. Along with homes, we build and repair fences for commercial properties and ranch and acreage land across the Permian Basin.
Do you build new fences or just repair them?
Both. We build wood privacy, pipe and metal, ornamental iron, aluminum, chain link and vinyl fences, and we repair posts, pickets, rails, gates and storm damage. We also stain fences, new or old.
Do you serve Odessa and Big Spring, or just Midland?
We serve Midland, Odessa, Big Spring, and surrounding Permian Basin communities. Traveling to job sites across the Permian Basin is standard for us.
Are you insured?
Yes. Tall City Exteriors is fully insured. We're happy to provide proof of insurance before any project begins.
Are you BBB Accredited?
Yes. Tall City Exteriors is BBB Accredited. You can view our rating and customer reviews directly on our BBB profile.
Fence Building
Do you take out the old fence?
Yes. We can tear out and haul off your old fence before we build the new one.
Should I get wood or steel posts?
Either works, and we install both. Steel posts don't rot and hold up well in West Texas wind. Wood posts keep the all-wood look. We'll explain the tradeoffs for your fence at the estimate.
What types of fences do you build?
Wood privacy, pipe and metal, ornamental iron, aluminum, chain link and vinyl, plus ranch rail and deer fencing, for homes, businesses and ranches.
Can you stain my new fence?
Yes. Staining is one of our main services. We'll let you know when your new wood is ready, and then stain it so it doesn't gray out in the sun.
Fence Repair
Should I repair my fence or replace it?
If the problems are a few posts, boards or a gate, repair usually makes sense. If most posts are rotted or several sections are down, a new fence often costs less over time. We'll look and give you an honest recommendation.
Can you fix just one section of my fence?
Yes. We can repair or rebuild a single section without replacing the whole fence.
Will the new boards match my old fence?
Not right away; new wood is lighter than weathered wood. Staining the fence after the repair evens out the color.
Do you repair gates?
Yes. We fix sagging and dragging gates, replace hinges and latches, and replace gates that can't be saved.
Do you repair storm damage?
Yes. We clear the damaged sections, reuse what's still sound, and rebuild the rest. We answer the phone 24/7, so call after a storm and we'll get you on the schedule.
Staining
How often should I re-stain wood in West Texas?
Most homeowners here need to re-stain every 2–3 years due to intense UV exposure and wind-driven dust.
Do you stain both sides of a fence?
Yes. We recommend staining both sides for full protection, especially the side facing direct afternoon sun.
Can you match an existing stain color?
In most cases, yes. Send us a photo or tell us the brand/shade if you know it, and we'll get as close a match as possible.
Do you stain decks, gates, and other wood in the same visit as a fence?
Yes. If you're already getting your fence done, it's an efficient time to knock out any other wood on the property in the same visit.
Exterior Painting
How long does an exterior paint job last in Midland and Odessa?
With quality paint and proper prep, expect 7–10 years, though intense sun exposure on south- and west-facing walls can shorten that somewhat.
Do you handle stucco repair before painting?
Yes, minor stucco cracks and patching are part of our standard prep. Larger structural repairs may be quoted separately.
What time of year is best for exterior painting in West Texas?
Spring and fall are ideal. Temperatures are moderate and paint cures properly. We can paint in summer with early starts to avoid peak heat.
Can you paint just my trim and doors, not the whole exterior?
Yes. Trim, doors, and shutters can be done as a standalone job if the rest of your exterior doesn't need attention yet.
Cost & Payment
How much does a fence cost?
It depends on length, height, fence type, posts, gates, tear-out and the ground it's going in. We measure and give you a free written quote, usually at the first visit.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash and credit cards. Card payments include a processing fee.
Do you charge for estimates?
No. Every estimate is free, and we put the quote in writing.
Do you offer any discounts?
