Wood Privacy Fences

Wood Privacy Fences in Midland & Odessa, TX

A wood privacy fence is the most popular backyard fence in Midland and Odessa, and the one West Texas is hardest on. Wind pushes on every board, sun dries the wood out and caliche makes post holes tough to dig. We build wood privacy fences to handle all of it, with wood or steel posts, your choice.

Tall City Exteriors is BBB Accredited and fully insured, and every estimate is free.

Built for West Texas Wind

A solid wood fence catches the wind like a sail, so most fence failures here start at the posts. That's why we give you a choice of posts: wood posts cost less up front, and steel posts don't rot at the ground line and stand up straighter in a hard wind. We'll tell you honestly which makes sense for your fence.

Wood Privacy Fence Styles

  • Side-by-side pickets. The classic privacy fence, simple and cost-effective.
  • Board-on-board. Overlapping pickets, so there are no gaps as the wood shrinks.
  • Cap and trim. A top cap and trim board for a finished look.
  • Heights. Common backyard privacy heights, set to what you need and what your neighborhood allows.

Gates for Wood Fences

We build wood walk gates and double drive gates with steel frames available, so they don't sag after a few seasons, and we fix wood gates that already drag. See gate repair.

Wood vs. Metal vs. Chain Link

Wood gives you full privacy and a warm look, and it needs stain every few years to last. If you'd rather never stain, see pipe, iron and metal fences. For the lowest cost per foot, see chain link.

Our Fence Building Process

  1. Free on-site estimate: We walk the fence line with you, measure, and talk through fence type, height, posts and gates, then send you a written quote.

  2. Tear-out: If there's an old fence, we remove it and haul it off.

  3. Build: Posts first, then rails, pickets or panels, then gates.

  4. Walkthrough: We walk the finished fence with you, check every gate, and clean up before we leave.

Build It, Then Stain It

A new wood fence is the best time to plan its first stain. We build the fence, and when the wood is ready, the same company comes back to stain it, one call for the whole job. Any project of $3,000 or more also qualifies for $250 off.

Wood Privacy Fence Questions

Don't see your question? Call (432) 279-1900, text (432) 200-1200 or email alex@tallcityexteriors.com.

How much does a wood privacy fence cost?

It depends on length, height, style, posts, gates, tear-out of an old fence and the ground. We measure and give you a free written quote, usually at the first visit.

Should I choose wood or steel posts?

Steel posts cost more up front but don't rot at the ground line and hold up better in wind. Wood posts cost less. We'll walk through the tradeoff for your fence.

When should a new wood fence be stained?

Once the wood has dried out enough to take stain, which is usually a few weeks to a few months after it's built. We can stain it for you when it's ready. See fence staining.

Can you replace just part of my fence?

Yes. If only some posts or sections have failed, we can repair or rebuild just those. See fence repair.

Do you remove the old fence?

Yes. We tear out and haul off the old fence as part of the job, or on its own.
